The Lane Patrol Fast-Track – Pilot City Istanbul
Workshop, supported by EIT Urban Mobility and implemented in cooperation with
Lane Patrol, co-financed with the EU under the Sectoral Operational Programme
for Transport (USOP) managed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure,
under Istanbul Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) Phase II – Implementation
Plan Project, was held on 16–17 December 2025, hosted by the
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Transportation, Transportation
Planning Branch.
Throughout the workshop, cycling infrastructure was examined in line with
international standards through applied trainings, analytical studies, and
scenario simulations focused on safety assessment.
Within the programme, a presentation delivered by İlknur Yücel, Deputy Head
of the Transportation Planning Branch, introduced the Istanbul Sustainable
Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) Stage II – Implementation Plan Project and the
city’s ongoing efforts to promote cycling as part of a human- and
environment-oriented urban vision.
The workshop brought together representatives from IMM departments,
district municipalities, and local authorities from different cities, and stood
out as one of the first implementations in Türkiye addressing cycling
infrastructure through a structured, data-driven framework. It represents an
important step toward strengthening institutional capacity for cycling
infrastructure planning and evaluation in Istanbul.
