The Closing Event of the “Technical Assistance for Strengthening Intermodal Transport Services in the Turkish Railway Sector” Project was held in Ankara on June 30, 2026.
The Closing Event of the
“Technical Assistance for Strengthening Intermodal Transport Services in the
Turkish Railway Sector” Project, co-financed by the European Union and the
Republic of Türkiye and implemented with the Ministry of Transport and
Infrastructure as the beneficiary institution, was held in Ankara on June 30,
2026.
The event was organised with the
participation of H.E. Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement, and
H.E. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the
Republic of Türkiye, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Transport
and Infrastructure, the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye, public
institutions, sector stakeholders, project partners and the technical
assistance team.
In the opening speeches, the
importance of developing intermodal transport in Türkiye, strengthening rail
freight transport, promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly transport
solutions, and enhancing European Union-Türkiye cooperation in the transport
sector was underlined.
Following the opening speeches,
institutional remarks were delivered by Mücahit Arman, Director General of
Strategy Development of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure; Maria
Luisa Wyganowski, Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union
to Türkiye; Bülent Özcan on behalf of the Directorate for EU Affairs of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye; and Burak Aykan,
Director General for European Union Affairs and Foreign Relations of the
Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
During the programme, Tibet Seyhan, Team Leader of the U-IMT Project, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the activities carried out under the Project, its key outputs and the work undertaken to support the development of intermodal transport services in Türkiye.
Within the scope of the Project,
technical studies were conducted to strengthen institutional capacity in the
field of intermodal transport, assess the legislative and policy framework,
implement training and awareness-raising activities, prepare sectoral analyses,
and contribute to a more competitive, sustainable and integrated rail-based
intermodal transport system in Türkiye.
The meeting was concluded with
the evaluation of the project outputs, the exchange of stakeholder
contributions and discussions on the future of intermodal transport in line
with Türkiye’s sustainable transport objectives.
