Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan For Trabzon (Sump For Trabzon) 8th Project Steering Committee Meeting Was Held

Within the scope of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for Trabzon, implemented under the Transport Sectoral Operational Programme (USOP) managed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye within the framework of Türkiye–EU financial cooperation, the eighth Project Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting was held on 14 August 2025, hosted by Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality with the participation of experts from the Department for EU Investments, the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye, and the contractor TYPSA & Boğaziçi Proje & KAISER Engineering consortium.

The opening of the meeting was conducted by Mr. Burak Aykan, Director General for European Union Affairs and Foreign Relations at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye, on behalf of the Contracting Authority. Following this, the floor for the opening remarks was assigned to Mr. Gürkan Üçüncü, Project Senior Representative of the End Recipient (SRER) and Secretary General of Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, and Mr. Akif Türkel, Representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye.

Following the opening speeches, Mr. Jose Laffond, Project Team Leader of the TYPSA & Boğaziçi Proje & KAISER Engineering consortium, presented a comprehensive briefing on the trainings, workshops, reports, and technical activities completed and currently in progress under the project. Additionally, information concerning the international conference scheduled to be attended was shared with the participants.

Thereafter, it was announced that preparations for the organisation of the “SUMP for Trabzon International Sustainable Mobility Conference” had commenced in cooperation with Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ) and Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality. The planned content and structure of the conference were outlined in detail by Ph.D. Murat Çağatay, Communication Expert of the SUMP for Trabzon Project.

During the second session of the meeting, Mr. Taceddin Kınay, Transport Planning Expert, provided an in-depth presentation on the actions identified in line with the studies conducted. In this context, the actions categorised under 11 principal thematic areas within the SUMP for Trabzon Action Plan were elaborated and presented to the participants.

In the concluding session, Mr. Burak Aykan, Director General for EU Affairs and Foreign Relations at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye; Ph.D. Tijen İğci, Head of the Department for EU Investments and IPA Director; Ms. Sıla Yıldırım Koca, Project Contract Manager; and Mr. Akif Türkel, Representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye, shared their assessments regarding the current progress of the project and provided recommendations concerning the upcoming steps.

The meeting concluded following deliberations on the proposals constituting the SUMP for Trabzon Action Plan and the feedback received, as well as the organisational arrangements for the forthcoming conference.
