
The SMART Ankara
Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) Project held its first Project Steering
Committee on March 2, 2023. The meeting was attended by Nihat ALKAŞ, the General
Director of EGO, Tijen İĞCİ (PhD), Head of Department for EU Investments of the
Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and Göktuğ KARA, the Transportation
Sector Team Coordinator at the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye
together with the representatives of the line institutions and the project
team.
The SMART Ankara
is a project co-funded by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye with
the aim of promoting sustainable urban mobility in Ankara. The project is being
developed by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, General Directorate of EGO,
with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure as the Contracting Authority.
The SMART Ankara
aims to promote sustainable urban mobility by improving the public
transportation system, enhancing cycling, and walking infrastructure, reducing
traffic congestion, and promoting sustainable transportation modes. The project
is expected to have a positive impact on the environment, the economy, and the
quality of life of the citizens of Ankara.
During the
meeting, Technical Assistance Team presented the project’s progress and then
the attendees discussed the project's progress, and future plans.
