Within the scope of Gaziantep Intelligent Transport Systems (GAUS) Project,
implemented under the Sectoral Operational Programme for Transport (USOP)
managed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of
Türkiye within the framework of Türkiye–EU financial cooperation, a study visit
is carried out to Warsaw and Kraków, Poland, between 6–10 September 2025.
The main objective of the visit was to explore innovative and smart
mobility practices, strengthen international cooperation, and enhance
Gaziantep’s vision for sustainable urban transport.
Throughout the programme, the delegation held meetings with Polish national
and local authorities as well as representatives of international Intelligent
Transport Systems (ITS) organizations. The visit coincided with the National
ITS Congress, which also hosted several international ITS institutions.
In Warsaw, the delegation participated in meetings at the Polish ITS
Congress, Warsaw Municipal Roads Authority, Rail Transport Authority (National
Railway Training Center), and the Centre for EU Transport Projects (CEUPT). A
technical session was also held with the Krakow Road Authority in Kraków.
The delegation gained detailed insights into smart transport systems,
traffic management, railway safety, and EU-funded mobility projects implemented
in Poland. During the visit to the Warsaw Traffic Monitoring and Management
Center, participants observed practices related to real-time traffic
management, digital information systems, and road safety technologies.
At the National Railway Safety Academy (Rail Transport Authority), the
delegation was briefed on railway operations, safety procedures, and the use of
professional train simulators. The discussions highlighted the institution’s
strong contribution to enhancing railway safety in Poland.
Meetings held at the Centre for EU Transport Projects (CEUPT) focused on
EU-funded transport infrastructure investments, sustainable transport strategies,
and safety planning. This institution coordinates major national transport
projects such as the National Traffic Management System, and the exchange of
experiences provided valuable input for future collaboration.
In Kraków, the delegation observed the city’s centralized traffic
management systems and digital mobility solutions. At the bus and tram traffic
management center, participants had the opportunity to see how the system
communicates with citizens and manages incidents in real time.
Officials from Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality emphasized that the
experience and knowledge gained from this study visit will make a significant
contribution to the city’s ongoing efforts to develop a smarter, safer, and
more sustainable urban mobility system.
