The Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy Plan for Gaziantep (GAUS),
one of the projects of the Sectoral Operational Programme for Transport (USOP),
is co-financed by the EU and aims for a more sustainable, accessible, and
environmentally friendly urban transport infrastructure. Managed by the Ministry of Transport and
Infrastructure, with the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality as the final
beneficiary, the project focuses on modernizing the city's transportation
systems and enhancing urban mobility through the implementation of Intelligent
Transport Systems (ITS).
To assess the project’s progress and plan future activities, the Steering
Committee Meeting was held on 15 April 2025 in Gaziantep. Tijen İğci (PhD),
Head of Department for EU Investments of the Ministry of Transport and
Infrastructure, and Abdullah Özdal, Head of the Transportation Department of
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, chaired the meeting.
During the meeting, Team Leader Gabriele Giustiniani and ITS and Transport
Management Expert Jaroslaw Kowalski from the technical assistance team
presented a comprehensive overview of the progress achieved so far. The project's
strategic importance for Gaziantep was once again emphasized, and discussions
were held on the next steps to achieve key objectives, such as digitalization
in mobility, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion.
The meeting fostered a strong spirit of collaboration among stakeholders.
