The "European Union
Support for Sustainable Urban Mobility in Turkish Cities" (SUMP Türkiye),
one of the important projects under the scoop of USOP, has continued its
activities in March 2024 by carrying out important institutional activities
aimed at capacity building and policy dialogue, as well as communication
activities to increase the number of stakeholders day by day.
The first of these
events was the 2nd Physical Training of SUMP Türkiye, held in
Ankara on 6-7 March 2024, with 34 participants from metropolitan municipalities
and government organisations. The training was titled "Sustainable Urban
Mobility Planning and Resilient Cities - 2", and the first day focused on
sharing knowledge and experiences on SUMP development, data collection,
analysis, monitoring and transportation modelling. On the second day, the
transition processes from planning to SUMP implementation were emphasised and
critical elements such as national support, governance and financing were
discussed.
On 13 March 2024, SUMP
Türkiye 2nd Policy Dialogue Event was held with the
participation of representatives from the stakeholder organisations of the
project. Following the opening speeches of Kayhan Özüm, Deputy Secretary
General of Union of Municipalities of Türkiye and Dr. Göktuğ Kara, Transport
Policy and Climate Change Team Coordinator of the Delegation of the European

White Policy Papers, which are among the main outputs of the project. Through
the presentations, project stakeholders were informed about the content of the
Green Policy Paper, the transition process from the Green Policy Paper to the
White Policy Paper and the development process of the White Policy Paper.
Comments and opinions were received from stakeholders on the Green Policy Paper,
and the course of the process and the contents of the Policy Papers were
