Within the scope of the Istanbul SUMP Phase II
Implementation Plan Project implemented under the USOP, which is managed by the
Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, co-financed by the European Union and the
Republic of Türkiye, the first citizen information meeting where the pilot
project studies on traffic calming and healthy streets was held on 25 April
2024 at the Istanbul Planning Agency. The opening speech made by the Istanbul
Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Head of Transportation Department Barış
Yıldırım and the project introduction by IMM Transportation Planning Deputy-Director
Dr. Seda Özdemir. Following, information was shared about traffic calming and
healthy streets approaches. At the meeting, where international good practice
examples were also presented, studies on how to implement these approaches in
Istanbul were shared and the opinions of the participants were received.
Within the scope of the project, citizen information meetings on 4 different topics and a total of 18 workshops regarding all pilot projects will be held.
