
The Kick-off Meeting of the Post-Earthquake Transport Recovery Action (PETRA Kahramanmaraş) in Kahramanmaraş Project was Held
The Kick-off Meeting for the Post-Earthquake Transport Recovery Action
(PETRA) in Kahramanmaraş project, which is being implemented under the Sectoral
Operational Programme for Transport (USOP) within the framework of the
"Accessible and Inclusive Transport" Action Area No. 3, under the
Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) for the 2014-2020 period, was
held online on 26 February 2025 with the participation of the experts from the
Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Department for EU Investments and
officials from the Department of Foreign Relations and Department of Transport
of Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality (KMM).
Representatives of the related units of the Department for EU Investments
of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure provided
information about the contract process, supply delivery time and
responsibilities for the contractor and Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan
Municipalities. The Contractor’s (KARSAN Company) officials provided technical
information about the conditions specified in the contract, the production of
the electric bus in accordance with the requests of the administration, and the
installation of the charging station.
The PETRA Kahramanmaraş project was prepared by Kahramanmaraş
Metropolitan Municipality to develop solutions to urban transportation
challenges, environmental and climate change issues, and support the public
transport system after the earthquakes on 6 February 2023. Following the
completion of the procurement process, a contract was signed with KARSAN
Company on 30 January 2025.
Within the scope of the PETRA Kahramanmaraş Project, 20 electric buses
(12 meters each) will be purchased, and 9 charging stations will be installed.
The total project budget is approximately €8.5 million, of which the EU grant
will cover 85%, while 15% will be funded by the Metropolitan Municipality.
