The Gaziantep Sustainable and Smart Mobility Project (GAUS), co-financed
with the EU under the Sectoral Operational Programme for Transport (USOP)
managed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, implemented by the Gaziantep Metropolitan
Municipality, aims to introduce environmentally friendly, efficient, and smart
mobility solutions. Funded by the European Union and supported by the Ministry
of Transport and Infrastructure, the project focuses on reducing traffic
congestion through smart mobility systems, modernizing public transportation
infrastructure, expanding bicycle lanes and pedestrian-friendly areas, and
promoting electric vehicle usage.
As part of this initiative, four workshops were held in February to discuss
mobility challenges, enhance stakeholder collaboration, and develop smart
transport solutions.
The Active Mobility Workshop, Logistics Workshop, Individual Transport and
Parking Management Workshop, and Public Transport Workshop brought together
representatives from public institutions, academia, the private sector, civil
society organizations, and the project team to exchange ideas on making
Gaziantep’s transportation infrastructure more sustainable and environmentally
friendly.
During the workshops, key topics such as reducing traffic congestion
through smart systems, modernizing public transportation, increasing bicycle
lanes and pedestrian-friendly areas, improving parking management, and
optimizing logistics systems were discussed.
The outcomes of these workshops will serve as a roadmap for improving urban
mobility and implementing environmentally friendly transport policies.
