The Healthy
Streets Implementation Workshop of the Istanbul SUMP Phase II Implementation
Plan Project, jointly financed by the EU under the Sectoral Operational
Programme for Transport (USOP) and managed by the Ministry of Transport and
Infrastructure, was held in Istanbul on 28 February 2025.
The workshop began
with an opening speech by Melda Horoz, the Head of the Istanbul Metropolitan
Municipality (IMM) Transportation Planning Department. After her speech, Sertaç
Erten (PhD) and Batuhan Akkaya provided details about the Healthy Streets Pilot
Project, which was developed under the project, to the participants.
As part of the
event, workshop sessions were held to discuss the project areas in Kadıköy,
Çekmeköy, Sultanbeyli, and Adalar. Participants contributed solutions on key
topics such as accessibility, active mobility, sustainable urban design, and
increasing green spaces.
The workshop
concluded with stakeholder insights, contributing to the development of new
ideas and strategies aligned with Istanbul’s goals for people-centered mobility
and environmentally friendly urban planning.
