The third Urban Agenda Meeting was held with Municipalities as the European Mobility Week approaches.
The third meeting of Urban Agenda, a component created for more effective and sustainable communication under the “EU Support for promoting Sustainable Urban Mobility in Turkish Cities” project (SUMP Türkiye) was held online on 17 July 2024. It was conducted with the participation of more than 200 municipal representatives, including 12 metropolitan municipalities that have implemented or are implementing a SUMP.
The Key Expert for communication activities of SUMP Türkiye Project and moderator of the meeting, Ms. Ayşe Sarp Gür explained the mission of Urban Agenda, which is a communication component of the SUMP Türkiye Project aimed at encouraging municipalities to embrace sustainable urban mobility throughout the year. She also emphasized the importance of generating high-quality, lasting, and quickly implementable projects under the Urban Agenda framework for European Mobility Week. The increasing interest in European Mobility Week in Türkiye since 2019 was highlighted. European Mobility Week 2023 activities were shared with the participants, and the goals for European Mobility Week 2024 were summarized.
Ms. Gülin Rahvancı, the Digital
Media Expert responsible for the Urban Agenda component, shared the
theme of European Mobility Week 2024 with the participants. The communication
slogan chosen by SUMP Türkiye this year, "Experience the City Together in
Shared Public Spaces" and its underlying concepts were introduced to the
participants. Municipalities were encouraged to adopt these slogans and
sub-themes, and were reminded that communication materials, including posters,
are available for their use. Information was provided about the EMW Awards
applications, and the categories of exemplary permanent projects. The
importance of municipalities generating high-quality projects through Urban
Agenda, thereby attracting the attention of the jury in the Mobility Award was
emphasized.
Communication and transport experts
from Ankara, İzmir, Denizli Metropolitan Municipalities shared the exemplary qualified
projects carried out by their institutions within the scope of European
Mobility Week.
The meeting
concluded after addressing questions from municipal representatives, with an
announcement that the next Urban Agenda session is planned to be held in
August.
