‘’The Second
Workshop on Disaster Resilient Transportation System” within the scope of the
Istanbul Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) Phase II Implementation Project,
jointly co-financed with the EU within the framework of the Sectoral
Operational Programme for Transport (USOP) managed by the Ministry of Transport
and Infrastructure, was held on May 21, 2025. In the workshop, the risks that
Istanbul's transportation system may face against extraordinary situations such
as pandemics, the level of preparedness for these risks and the resilience of
the system were comprehensively discussed.
In the light of
the measures taken and experiences in Istanbul during the Covid-19 pandemic,
strategies to ensure sustainability and continuity in transportation were
discussed with stakeholders. The event, which was held with a wide
participation from local government representatives to health institutions,
academia and non-governmental organizations, evaluated the performance of
public transportation systems during the pandemic, lessons learned and solution
proposals.
The program
included project presentations, panel sessions, workshops and evaluation
forums. Participants put forward the structural and managerial measures
necessary for transportation systems to provide uninterrupted service in times
of crisis. The steps that need to be taken for Istanbul to have an inclusive,
resilient and prepared transportation system were once again emphasized.
