Public Information Meeting Held Under Istanbul SUMP Stage II

Co-financed with the EU under the Sectoral Operational Programme for Transport (USOP) managed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, under Istanbul Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) Phase II – Implementation Plan Project, the “Public Information Meeting on Resilient and Crisis-Ready Urban Transport System” was held on 5 November 2025.

The meeting shared the findings and methodologies developed within the pilot project, which aims to strengthen the resilience of Istanbul’s transport system against natural disasters and emergencies. Participants had the opportunity to review and discuss proposed measures to ensure the continuity of mobility during potential future disasters or pandemics.

The opening speech was delivered by Seda Özdemir, Deputy Director of the Transport Planning Department of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). The program featured the following presentations:

·         Senior Expert Burcu Soygüzeloğlu, in her presentation titled “Resilient Mobility in Future Pandemics,” shared sustainable mobility strategies for pandemic periods.

·         Senior Expert Ersoy Pehlivan and Prof. Dr. Himmet Karaman, in the session “Resilient Mobility in Disasters and Crises,” discussed solutions to restore the functionality of transport infrastructure after disasters.

·         Leventcan Er, in his presentation “Urban Mobility Resilience Handbook,” introduced the scope and potential applications of the guide developed within the project.

The event concluded with a panel session where the speakers, together with Otar Nemsadze from Rupprecht Consult, discussed their project experiences, the applicability of the results, and contributions to Istanbul’s resilient transport vision.

The meeting served as an important platform for raising awareness and sharing strategies aimed at enhancing the resilience of Istanbul’s transport system to disasters and crises.
