On 24 December
2024, the Bus Priority Lanes Workshop was held as part of the İstanbul
Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SKUp) Phase II Implementation Plan Project implemented
under the Sectoral Operational Programme for Transport (USOP) as part of the
Türkiye-EU financial cooperation managed by the Ministry of Transport and
Infrastructure. The workshop began with an opening
speech by IMM Transportation Department Head Barış Yıldırım and continued with
a presentation by Project Expert Haluk Camcıgil, focusing on the impact of bus
lanes on travel time and safety.
The workshop
featured an analysis of successful case studies from other cities and a
detailed evaluation of design criteria tailored for Istanbul. During the
workshop, participants engaged in discussions about the design and policy
choices for bus lanes. Various scenarios were assessed regarding which types of
vehicles should be allowed to use bus lanes. Participants proposed technically
and socially feasible solutions, discussing the most efficient design options
to accommodate Istanbul's traffic density effectively.
This workshop
marked a significant step toward enhancing urban transport efficiency and
developing environmentally friendly solutions.
