On 21 January 2025, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM)
organized the "Workshop on Evaluating and Prioritizing Transport
Investments" under the Istanbul SUMP Stage II Implementation Plan Project,
co-financed with the EU within the framework of the Transport Sectoral
Operational Programme (USOP) managed by the Ministry of Transport and
Infrastructure. The workshop began with an opening speech by Seda Özdemir,
Deputy Director of IMM's Transportation Planning Branch Directorate. In her
speech, Özdemir emphasized the importance of addressing Istanbul's
transportation system needs and prioritizing investments.
As part of the event, Project Experts Işıl Nadire Yener and Görkem
Akyol presented the Implementation Plan, designed to approach transport
investments with a sustainable perspective, in detail to the participants. This
plan provides a strategic framework to guide IMM's transportation projects.
The first session of the Transportation Needs Analysis Workshop
focused on evaluating Istanbul's transportation needs based on economic,
social, spatial, and environmental impacts. This workshop emphasized
sustainability principles and provided a detailed analysis of the current state
of the transportation system.
Another significant session, the Prioritization Criteria Workshop,
focused on defining strategies for prioritizing transportation projects.
Participants exchanged views on priority investment areas and contributed to
decision-making processes.
In the final session of the workshop, the outcomes of all sessions
were evaluated, and strategies and measures for adopting a more effective and
sustainable approach to IMM's transportation investments were discussed.
