On October 22-23, 2024, an impactful workshop on
'Urban Resilience' was held within the framework of Düzce Sustainable Urban Mobility
Plan Project (Düzce SUMP), implemented under the Sectoral
Operational Programme for Transport (USOP) as part of the Türkiye-EU financial
cooperation managed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure at the Düzce
Municipality Cultural Center, led by Project Key Expert Patrick Van Egmond. During
the event, natural disaster preparedness and enhancing urban resilience were
discussed in depth. The workshop provided participants with information on
global strategies and best practices to enhance the city's resilience capacity,
with a particular focus on the unique challenges of Düzce being located in
earthquake zone.
In the October 22nd session, a
comprehensive presentation was made on resilience themes critical for Düzce, particularly
urban planning and disaster preparedness. Together with the participants, an
intensive exchange of information was held on disaster preparedness measures
and increasing urban resilience.
On October 23rd, an interactive game
on resilience-related topics such as sustainability and transportation was
played with participants. Guided by Patrick Van Egmond, the game provided a
practical experience of how cities can be made more resilient, allowing
participants to see resilience strategies in a more tangible way.
At the end of the workshop, participants received
certificates for their participation in the workshop on 'Urban Resilience'.
