The
"EU Support for Promoting Sustainable Urban Mobility in Turkish
Cities" Project, with the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye as the End
Beneficiary and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure as the Contracting
Authority, is co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye.
The primary objective of the project is to promote the transition from
individual transport to sustainable, accessible, and inclusive mobility modes
at both national and urban levels. Within the framework of the SUMP Türkiye
Project, the European Mobility Week (EMW) 2025 media launch was held on 30 June
2025, hosted by the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (UMT). During the event,
the core principles of the EMW 2025 theme, “Mobility for Everyone,” were
introduced to the public through media outreach.
The
launch began with participants gathering at Kuğulu Park in Ankara and continued
with the screening of a thematic film and a presentation reflecting the message
of “Mobility for Everyone.” Attended by representatives from the Union of Municipalities
of Türkiye, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Ministry of
Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the Directorate for EU Affairs of
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the EU Delegation to Türkiye, and the SUMP
Türkiye Project, the event featured opening speeches by Ambassador Thomas
Ossowski, Head of the EU Delegation to Türkiye, and Zeydan Karalar, Vice
President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye, both emphasizing the core
principles of the theme.
Throughout
the media launch, key topics such as accessible bus stops, safe cycling routes,
clean transportation solutions, and seamless integration were highlighted
through both visual and verbal elements. This was followed by a vibrant
performance from the Çankaya Municipality Marching Band, which added energy to
the event.
Later,
an interactive awareness activity invited participants to answer questions on
sustainable mobility, with successful teams receiving awards. At the conclusion
of the event, representatives and stakeholders posed for a group photo before
symbolizing the importance of integrating sustainable transport modes—such as
public transport, walking, cycling, and e-scooters—into daily life with a
collective walk, accompanied by the marching band, to the UMT headquarters.
